Cultivating a Cozy Fall at Home

I’ve officially started my no social media (Instagram + Facebook) August, a break I take to pause the scrolling habits I’ve built, and let my brain dream about fall/crafts/recipes/creative ideas that I just don’t seem to dream about in the same way when I’m constantly scrolling online. I still use Pinterest and Substack, but have found that both of these outlets are 1. harder to scroll for hours on 2. usually leave me with creative ideas and things to think about, rather than feeling totally numbed out.

So, with that said, I am officially in dreaming about fall (especially as it feels like its 100 million degrees here in Texas), and what things make our home feel extra cozy in my favorite season of the year!

Here are a few of the ideas I’ve rounded up over the years!

Baking Something Pumpkin

The smells are a bonus, but nothing tastes more like fall than something pumpkin! Although, any baked good will do, really! Here are the recipes I’m hoping to try this year:

-Pumpkin Cookies from Butternut Bakery linked here

-Pumpkin Baked Oatmeal from The Natural Nurterer linked here

-Pumpkin Bread from Kitchen Sparks linked here

-Not pumpkin, but these Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins from Natasha’s Kitchen linked here - I’ve already made them once and plan to make them again soon because they were so great!

Plus, I always will buy a few boxes of the Trader Joe’s pumpkin bread mix (add chocolate chips for extra yum!)

A Yard Set Up That You Want to Spend Time In

As the days + nights start to cool down, it can be so nice to get outside and enjoy the crisp air! Hosting friends, football watch parties, grilling, or just hanging out by the firepit with a glass of wine, are all great ways to enjoy being outside in this season! I rounded up a few of the finds that I think make a great outdoor space even cozier, and you can read all about that here!

DIY Crafts + Decoration

Like I previously mentioned, I love this time in August to step away from social media, because it gives my brain some time to dream about what kinds of creative projects I want to do in the coming months!

I love creating decorations for fall for a few reasons… 1. It feels more sustainable than constantly buying junk that we either throw away every year, or have to find somewhere to store. 2. It’s a fun activity to do with our son 3. It feels cozier and more home-y to me than a lot of the store bought stuff

Here are some of the crafts I’ve loved doing through the years:

-DIY Ghost Garland made of Book Pages - linked here

-DIY Orange Slice Wreath - linked here

And a few I want to try this year:

-”Thankful” Banner with sewn letters that I’m having a hard time finding a tutorial for, and may just have to create myself!

-Pumpkin Taper Candles - linked here

Plus, decorating the porch with pumpkins from our local pumpkin patch is always fun + simple! It makes for a fun family outing going to pick them out, and always looks so sweet on our patio!

A Tried and True Fall Candle

Every year, I make myself wait until September 1st to light our fall candles, but once we bring them out, they are constantly lit around here! I just love the coziness that a good smelling candle can bring to the whole house.

My absolute favorite scent is Maple Hazelnut from DW Home. It must be a fan favorite, too because it sells out often! I’m currently on the waitlist for when it comes back in stock, and sometimes I can find it at TJMaxx… it smells so heavenly!

Those are some of my favorites! Hopefully this gives some inspiration for ways to make your home feel extra cozy and sweet this fall!
